This anisotropy puts stringent requirements on the numerical methods used to solve the MHD-equations since any misalignment of the grid with the fieldlines may cause numerical pollution of the perpendicular diffusion by the much larger parallel diffusion coefficient. The common approach of field-aligned coordinates runs into problems in case of x-point magnetic topology which makes local non-alignment unavoidable. The mimetic finite difference schemes and finite element schemes using the support operator method maintain the accuracy of the perpendicular diffusion particularly well on non-aligned grids. We address why these schemes maintain the accuracy so well. For this purpose we compared several finitedifference schemes and a special finite-volume scheme applied to the anisotropic heat conduction equation. 1This work, supported by the European Communities under the contract of Association between EURATOM/FOM, was carried out within the framework of the European Fusion Development Agreement. Study of Discrete Duality Finite Volume Schemes for the Peaceman Model
In this paper, we are interested in the finite volume approximation of a system describing miscible displacement in porous media. This system is made of two coupled equations: an anisotropic diffusion equation on the pressure and a convection-diffusion-dispersion equation on the concentration of invading fluid. The anisotropic diffusion operators in both equations require a special care while d...
متن کاملPositive nonlinear CVFE scheme for degenerate anisotropic Keller-Segel system
In this paper, a nonlinear control volume finite element (CVFE) scheme for a degenerate Keller– Segel model with anisotropic and heterogeneous diffusion tensors is proposed and analyzed. In this scheme, degrees of freedom are assigned to vertices of a primal triangular mesh, as in finite element methods. The diffusion term which involves an anisotropic and heterogeneous tensor is discretized on...
متن کاملAntidissipative Numerical Schemes for the Anisotropic Diffusion Operator in Problems for the Allen-cahn Equation
This contribution discusses two attitudes to artificial dissipation reduction in numerical schemes for solving initial boundary value problems for the Allen-Cahn equation with anisotropy incorporated into the diffusion operator. In the first case, a weighted first order finite difference scheme is used for spatial discretization of the anisotropic texture diffusion problem in 2D, designed for v...
متن کاملMonotone corrections for generic cell-centered finite volume approximations of anisotropic diffusion equations
We present a nonlinear technique to correct a general Finite Volume scheme for anisotropic diffusion problems, which provides a discrete maximum principle. We point out general properties satisfied by many Finite Volume schemes and prove the proposed corrections also preserve these properties. We then study two specific corrections proving, under numerical assumptions, that the corresponding ap...

متن کاملA Virtual Volume Method for Heterogeneous and Anisotropic Diffusion-reaction Problems on General Meshes
Starting from the recently introduced virtual element method, we construct new diffusion fluxes in two and three dimensions that give birth to symmetric, unconditionally coercive finite volume like schemes for the discretization of heterogeneous and anisotropic diffusion-reaction problems on general, possibly nonconforming meshes. Convergence of the approximate solutions is proved for general t...
